Great Western Insurance Company reports a record year for preneed growth

DES MOINES, Iowa – American Enterprise Group, Inc. (AEG), parent company of Great Western Insurance Company (GWIC®), has reported 2022 as a record year for growth of its preneed business. Preneed sales volume topped $200 million in 2022, a 10% increase over 2021. AEG attributes this exceptional performance to a dedicated team that has found innovative approaches to grow organically while building strong relationships.

To support continued growth in 2023, AEG has announced the promotion of Allen Whitmer to director, national sales distribution for preneed. Whitmer will oversee the company’s preneed regional sales managers and continue to report to Aubrey Ryan, assistant vice president, national sales distribution at AEG.

“We are thrilled to see continued growth and recognize the contributions of our sales team,” said Dennis Case, chief sales officer at AEG. “Al and Aubrey have done a tremendous job initiating proactive ways to help us grow our preneed business in a highly competitive market. Their efforts have complemented the hard work of our regional sales managers, who also contributed to our success.”

Whitmer joined AEG in March 2020 as a regional sales manager and was promoted in March 2022 to national sales distribution manager. He is the third generation of his family to work in funeral services with 13 years of industry experience and a passion for the profession.

“The pandemic hit right after I joined AEG,” Whitmer said. “Given the depressed sales the preneed industry experienced in 2020, it’s rewarding to see sales continuing to rebound first in 2021 and especially now, having achieved our biggest year ever.”

The record year in sales resulted in a record number of preneed agents qualifying to attend the 2023 sales conference in Costa Rica. The company plans to build on this momentum in 2023 with new incentives and offers.

“One opportunity we are really excited about is a potential increase to the growth rate on new preneed business,” said Case. “We are exploring our options and look forward to sharing more details with our funeral homes and marketing organizations once available.”
